Every disc is rated on four numbers that describe its flight path. Understanding them helps you pick the right disc for your arm speed and the shot shape you need.
- Speed (1-14) - how fast the disc needs to be thrown to fly correctly. Beginners do better with lower speed discs (5-7). High-speed drivers need arm speed most new players don't have yet.
- Glide (1-7) - how long the disc stays in the air. Higher glide = more distance potential on a clean throw.
- Turn (-5 to +1) - the tendency to turn right (for right-hand backhand) during the high-speed part of flight. Negative = understable (turns right, beginner-friendly). Zero = neutral. Positive = very overstable.
- Fade (0-5) - the hard left finish at the end of flight. 0 = finishes straight, 5 = strong hook left. Beginners want low Fade discs.
Finding a beginner disc: Sort Turn ascending (most negative first) and look for discs with Speed 5-7 and Fade 0-2. These will fly straight and long even at slower arm speeds.
